Rhynchocyon chrysopygus (Peters 1847; 28cm length) is the extanct golden rumped elephant shrew. The invivo pciture presents Rhynchocyon petersi a speedy terrestrial placental that spends its day seeking invertebrates in leaf litter. The cranium is not expanded, the rostrum is long and the orbit is set posteriorly on the skull. |
