Owenetta rubidgei (Broom 1939) Late Permian O. kitchingorum - Early Triassic ~250 mya, was originally considered a cotylosaur (= captorhinind like Captorhinus). It was later moved to the Parareptilia (which is not considered valid here) and as a relative to Nyctiphruretus. Tsuji (2006) nested Owenetta with Procolophon, but they are not closely related. Reisz and Laurin (1991) reported a similar nesting that also included turtles. Here Owenetta was derived from a sister to Sauropareion. Candelaria was a sister taxon. These taxa phylogenetically preceded Paliguana at the base of the Lepidosauriformes.

Distinct from Sauropareion, the skull of Owenetta had ataller skull with frontals that were pinched above the orbits

Distinct from Nyctiphruretus, the cervicals were longer, the dorsal ribs were longer and wider.

The scapula and coracoid were not fused and much smaller. The forelimb was longer.

The ilium was lower and with a longer posterior process. The hindlmb was longer.

Barasaurus besairiei (Piveteau 1955) Late Permian was considered a procolophonid, but it is not closely related to Procolophon. It is a close sister to Owenetta but with a distinctly smaller skull, longer torso and larger hands and feet.
